In 2016, my husband and I decided that we would spend our Eid holiday in Bandarban. The reason behind this decision was that we had been there before, a very nice place. There are no such forests and mountains anywhere else in Bangladesh. When you go to the top of Chimbuk hill, you can see the movement of clouds. From the top of the hill, you will see the waters of the Bay of Bengal in the distance. The reason for going for the second time was that even after booking the hotel for the first time, I could not stay overnight due to the political instability in the country.
So nothing was seen except the Nilgiri tourist spot. This time I planned a seven-day tour. Hopefully, there will be no shortage of time to wander around. I had booked the train ticket in advance. I got on the train at 6 am the next day of Eid with breakfast and a bottle of tea. While reading the storybook, one could see the enchanting view of the village of Bengal in the morning through the window of the train. The most beautiful was when the train was passing by the guard of Sitakunda. Blue sky above and rows of yellow mountains below. At one o'clock in the afternoon, we reached Chittagong Railway. The car was already arranged there. You have to reach the resort by car about 63 km. At first, we had our lunch because outside the Chittagong city you could not find any restaurant. Then the journey began, I didn't notice when I fell asleep in the exhaustion, I woke up with a strong jolt. I looked and saw that the car was going up the hill road. The light of day was not visible through the branches of the dense jungle trees on both sides of the road when the sun sets. By the time our car reached the gate of the resort, it was dark all around. From the main gate of the resort around 50-60 stairs go up the canteen and from the canteen again up the stairs, down and up again to our cottage. Our cottage was isolated from the other cottages. Three narrow waterfalls (JHIRI) were flowing by its side. Another cottage can be seen a little behind the trees at the top of the hill and two cottages just below our cottage can be seen as a whole. Our cottage was very nice with a balcony outside, a bedroom inside and a spacious space adjoining where there were two chairs and a tea table. That place was separated from the bedroom by a curtain and there was a window through the front wall. You can sit there and get a view of the mountains. The windows were surrounded by small trees and the bathroom windows were surrounded by big trees. The next day we woke up and saw the Shoilopropat Waterfall, tribal market, Navchattar, and Chimbuk hills. We noticed a Sunrise View Point at Chimbuk hills. I decided to come there and watch the sunrise in the morning. I had spicy Red Junglefowl with steam rice at a restaurant there. The next day we went to see the Nilgiri. You have to cross the army check post there. We had our lunch in the Nilgiri canteen with Khichuri. But due to bad weather, we could not get out for a long time, nothing could be seen clearly from the top of the hill as a layer of thick clouds surrounded us. And after a while, it rained with a strong wind. We couldn't even take a good look due to the wind speed. Because the time was at the end of June, this is the beginning of the rainy season in Bangladesh. So I went back to the resort early. I was upset that I couldn't get out well, so my husband offered me to see Sunrise. I was very happy, my life had never been such an adventure before. But Sunrise View Point was Thanchi Road, which takes 1 hour to go 21 km away from the resort. It was 5:30 at sunrise so I went to the canteen to ask the driver to be ready to leave the resort at 4:00. I didn't sleep at night, but it took us 4:15 to pack up and leave. The car started to climb up the hill slope. Dense jungle on one side of the road from where the call of various animals and birds can be heard, and a deep ditch on the other side. There was no light anywhere on the street. Driving through the dense darkness, only a small part of the road was visible in the headlight. It is not possible to tell someone who has not experienced the path through this darkness how terrible it is. And the roads were very narrow, and it was difficult to drive envoys. So I was a little scared and a little excited at the same time in my mind. I suddenly felt a loud jolt. It felt like something hit the car. The driver immediately stopped the car. I was looking out the window at the road and could not see what happened. My husband fell asleep, only to open his eyes with a jolt. He asked the driver what happened. The driver said he didn't see anything either. They both got out of the car and went to check what the car hit. I sat in the car. I sat on the forest side of the road. I was listening to music with headphones in my ears and I was looking out of the window at the road. The glass of the window was down, through which the rainwater came and fell on my face. But in the meantime, I noticed one thing, a tribal woman was standing right next to me about 3 feet away. The woman was wearing a white tribal dress that's why I said she was a tribal woman. I could not see her face clearly in the dark. But she could see me because the lights were on inside the car. I could see that she had been looking at me for a long time. When she noticed that I saw her too, she flashed a smile with her unusually bright set of teeth. I didn't know whose teeth could be so white. I don't even know if it seemed that way in the dark. Her smile made me feel uneasy. Seeing her looking at me, I pretended not to see her and concentrated on the mobile. Why that day I did not even think that this woman was standing next to the forest at night? If she had to go somewhere or had any work, she will walk away, she will not stand. And the tribesmen do not come out of their houses at dusk, but come out again as soon as the day breaks. When my husband returned to the car after 10-15 minutes, I saw that the woman was still standing. The car started moving again. I saw the sunrise, the top of the golden temple was shining in the sun from a distance. I decided to visit the Golden Temple the next day.
The next day I visited the Golden Temple in Bandarban city, we took a boat to explore the river Matamuhuri all day. Gradually evening came and we returned to the resort. That day before dinner when we were talking in the dining space I mentioned the tribal woman. He said, 'There was no one there. ' I said, 'It was standing so close that I could see it from the car, and you couldn't even see it from going outside. I think you could not see because of the darkness. ' He said, 'I and the driver have been searching for a long time with torches on both sides of the road to see if any animal came and hit the car, we even walked a long way from the car. As far as the eye could see, there was not even a single dog. If there were any women we could see. ' I said, 'You may not have noticed, the driver may have seen. I will ask him tomorrow. ' He said, 'Okay, ask. I know You don't believe me. ' Then we both went to the canteen and had dinner.
It was 11:30 at night. My husband was asleep, and I was awake. The lights in the room were off, only dimly lit by a faint blue light that was coming from A.C. The lamp in the dining space was also switched off. As I said before the bedroom and dining space were divided by curtains, and there was no wall or door in between. For a long time, I leaned on the pillow and stared through the dark curtains. It seemed as if the curtain moved a little. I turned on the light in the room. I checked if there was anyone. No! There was no one anywhere. I turned off the light in the bedroom and turned on the light in the dining space and sat on the chair with a storybook in hand. The purpose was to go to bed and sleep when I felt sleepy after reading the book. I was looking outside through the window, another cottage was visible there. The light of the light installed outside that cottage is coming directly to the eyes. I concentrated on the storybook because I would not fall asleep if I looked at the light. After I didn't know how long, maybe after half an hour of reading, my eyes noticed on the book pages that the light outside the window was no longer falling on my face. That was, something was standing outside the window due to which the light was blocked.
I didn't look back at the window at first, thinking maybe a tree branch or leaf, so I waited. But then I thought that there was no big tree here to hide the window. So I looked back and saw that nothing was visible outside the window. Only blackness was visible. I looked for a while to understand what was the matter and when I looked carefully I saw that a black curtain came and covered the outside of the window. That day the screen slowly began to move. It felt like going down. As It was going down, I suddenly saw something. What was it again? It took me a minute to fully understand. In fact, it was a face, an inverted face of a woman. And what I thought was a black curtain for so long as the thick black hair hanging from that upturned head. But can anyone's hair be so long? That was, a woman hangs upside down from the roof of a cottage and her hair touches the ground. But was it possible for a human to do that? I froze there, unable to move because of fear, even forgetting to scream. The face looked familiar to me. Hey! It is the tribal woman, who laughs in such an eerie way. I couldn't bear it anymore, I screamed. My husband came running and saw me shivering in fear. I didn't say anything to him that night.
I couldn't wake up in the morning and go outside, my mental state was not right. Decided to visit the resort today. After breakfast, I started exploring the resort. It's decorated with many flowers and fruit trees. There was also a pineapple garden. The resort was very big, there were small waterfalls in places. A short distance away from the cottages was a staff dormitory. No one was there, the inside was completely visible through the large glass window. I went to its balcony and stood. The surroundings were surrounded by dense forest and darkness. Both our bodies felt heavy at that place. I didn't feel good so I went to the canteen. It was already time for lunch. The driver came to meet us, and my husband had to send him to buy train tickets to Chittagong. Because tomorrow was the last day of the Eid holiday and my husband's office would start the day after tomorrow. Then I asked him if he saw any woman in Chimbuk Hill that day? He said that he did not see anyone. When I asked what caused the collision with the car that day, he told me an incident. The incident was like this:
The car he drove, was this resort car, he had been driving this car for many years. Many tourists like us were similarly taken to watch the sunrise at night. Car collision was not a new thing, the same incident has happened many times before in the same place. I was completely surprised to hear this. I noticed what my husband was saying to a boy in the canteen. After lunch, we went to the local market to do some shopping. The pineapples and mangoes here were delicious, along with the colorful woolen shawls. In the evening while having tea in the canteen I was talking to a local tribal boy. Since I was fascinated by horror stories from a young age, I would try to find out if there were any popular horror stories out there. So I asked this boy if there were any local ghost stories. The boy said, 'There is no end to the horror stories here. We tribes believe all these stories in our hearts, so we follow various rules and regulations. Because all these rules have been made laws for us by our forefathers. We all believe that if we don't follow this law, disaster will come into our lives. ' I asked, 'What kind of law or regulation? ' The boy said, 'There are many rules, I can't say all of them, but I can say one or two. Like we never go out after dark. If anyone knocked on the door or heard the voice of someone we knew. Because we believe that there are some witches living in the mountains who come in different forms and lead people astray and kill them. Maybe those people became their food or they sacrifice those people to their worshiped devil.'
I was shocked, 'Maneater witch? ' The boy continued, 'Yes, they make men their victims, that is, they kill them. And possessed women. I asked, 'How many of you have seen that woman with your own eyes? ' The boy said, 'Many, those who go out on the streets at night for any purpose will meet that witch. A few people together can't hurt. But try to harm. But killed the alone man. Many people have disappeared from this mountain. The bodies of many have not been found. ' I said, 'what? Have you seen the witch at the resort? ' The boy said, 'Bachelor workers in this resort stay in the dormitory at night, but those who are married go back to their homes after ten at night. Many of them saw that witch at that time. But they were not alone, the witch could not harm them. And besides, they all have the shield given by our Dharma Guru. ' Saying this the boy showed me a moduli-type thing in his hand. The boy also said, 'The witch is afraid of this shield. He can do no harm to whoever has it. ' I noticed that everyone except the resort manager had such a maduli in their hand.
After drinking tea and returning cottage drenched in the rain, the electricity went off. The room boy comes with the candle and says that an electric pillar has collapsed somewhere nearby due to heavy rain. There was a generator, but not much oil, so only the canteen area will be lit. Now it was not possible to give electricity line in the rooms. I thought 'what to do, we will leave tomorrow. ' During the dinner time driver called to us and said there was no train ticket available. Because tomorrow everybody will return to Dhaka and all the tickets were sold already. When the manager heard about our situation he said there were some of his friends who worked in the bus company, if we want he will try to manage tickets. We said, 'Bus will be ok for us. ' But after trying for two hours when the manager said bus tickets were also unavailable we were so disappointed. So necessarily we booked two bus tickets for the day after tomorrow by the manager and returned to the cottage.
After returning to the cottage my husband surprised me with a pudding and said, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETHEART. Couldn't arrange the cake so celebrate the birthday with pudding.". I was so happy. It was 12:01 and I almost forgot that tomorrow was my birthday. I celebrated my birthday by cutting pudding with candlelight in the dark. That was an adventurous birthday celebration. When the whole area was in darkness, there was no sound other than the sound of the rain falling on the leaves. There was no light anywhere. Everyone in the resort was asleep because they will leave the place early morning. But we two were only awake. First, we talked for a while and laughed a lot. Then we started arguing about something. I don't know what happened to me that night. I am saying this because the next day I felt that the matter that I was arguing about was not really such a big argument. Saying such a big fuss because I was unusually shouting and crying. The was started at 1 o'clock. The situation was so odd that I was feeling, I had to suicide. Later, judging my state of mind, I understood well that at that night I was influenced more specifically possessed by someone. The body was mine, but the behavior and words were not mine. Like somebody was doing all through me. You people will ask how can you know that argument is a common thing between all couples. Then I will say it was not possible for me to explain, but only I can realize what I really feel that night.
I quarreled until dawn. I didn't even have breakfast in the morning. I didn't go out anywhere because it was raining cats and dogs all day. When we went to the canteen for lunch I noticed there was no one except us. We didn't go out for tea that day because of the heavy rain. Actually, the canteen was so far from our cottage and it was difficult to go there in the rain because we had to cross many stairs. But it was difficult to avoid dinner. So we both left the cottage with umbrellas to go to the canteen in the rain. It was dark all around, there was no light anywhere. There was no light in the canteen also. Only two workers and the manager were in the canteen. The manager will leave the resort at night and only workers will stay. Seeing that the canteen would be closing soon, we quickly finished our dinner by candlelight. They informed us after we left the resort that tomorrow it will close for the next three months until the rainy season stop. Because during this time no tourists come to the hills due to the heavy rain. The road was closed due to the rain, and the soil of the mountain became soft and collapsed. And besides, it will take another week or so to repair the damage caused by the collapse of the electric pillar. They quickly packed everything and closed the canteen as soon as we finished eating. They came halfway with us towards their dormitory with some of our candles. And we slowly started walking towards the cottage. There were no other guests except us in the whole Resort, all the cottages were empty, and my body went numb just thinking about it.
The whole road was wet with rain so we stepped carefully and came towards the cottage carrying the umbrella and torch. At that time, the fox howled very close. It seems that there were 3-4 foxes in front of the cottage which was slightly above our cottage. But was it not possible for any outsider to enter the resort. The entire resort was surrounded by high walls. Then the shape of the fox can be understood in the dark. I thought maybe it got in somehow. So we hurried back to the room and closed the door properly. After 10-15 minutes, at that time someone knocked twice on the door. But 'who? ' When asked, no one got a word. Then my husband opened the door and checked if anyone was outside. But there was no one outside, but we both distinctly heard a knock at the door. After this incident, we both fell silent, wondering what was going on. All around was quiet, only the sound of insects and rain. We both decided to sleep together because what was happening was unusual and we can't control it. Before going to bed, when I was coming out of the bathroom, I saw the dining room window open. However, since I saw that face in the window that day, I kept that window closed. I asked him, 'Did you open this window? ' He said, 'If I had opened it, you would have seen it. I have entered and left the room with you every time. ' It's true and then I said, 'Are you telling the truth? ' He said, 'Why should I lie to you about opening the window? ' I trusted him and was thinking who opened the window and when was it opened. Obviously, it was not open before I would have noticed it earlier if it was open earlier. Because that window can be seen directly when going to the bathroom. My husband said, 'I saw that window closed even before I went to dinner. ' That when we were not in the room someone opened it and as it can only be closed from inside, it was also opened from inside. But we locked the door and the key was with us all the time. I asked him to close the window because I was afraid to go there. Even though I would not sleep, I lay down. We were both scared, but don't want to let each other understand. I was praying in my mind that, Tomorrow morning we should be able to return from here. May nothing else happens tonight. But I could not imagine that the greatest horror was yet to come.
It's 1:30 at night, and only a small part of the room is dimly lit by the light of a candle. Suddenly there were footsteps of something running around our cottage. It seemed as if some animals were running. The pattern of the sound running around was impossible to maintain. Because our cottage was surrounded by trees on two sides and by a waterfall on one side. I called my husband, and he was surprised to hear this. This noise continued for about an hour and we both froze in fear. We didn't make a sound, didn't even get out of bed. Suddenly the sound stopped. Then we sat looking at each other in shock for a while. But when I heard a sound in the direction of the bathroom, my eyes went towards it. I saw something dark coming out of the darkness behind the curtain through the connection point of the curtain near the bathroom. It was slowly coming towards us. As gradually approached, I realized that it was a human figure with very long hair spread down to the floor. Just then my husband grabbed my hand and started running out the door with me. What I just saw! When I was thinking that he appeared to me at the gate of the workers' dormitory.
Leaving me there, he went back to the cottage with a worker. Because we left the cottage door open and all our belongings were inside the cottage. So it was necessary to lock the door. We spent the rest of the night there. I kept wondering what I saw. On the first day, I thought it was my hallucination. But today we both saw it together. And the other incidents, what was that? When I went back to the cottage the next morning and packed my bags, I was too scared to enter. We came back to Dhaka that day.
A week later, we had a discussion over tea in the evening:
Me: Anyway, we haven't been out for such a long time. And such a ghostly experience has not happened anywhere.
My Husband: You didn't tell me about the face you saw in the window when we were staying there, you told me when we are in Dhaka. If I had known earlier, I would have come to Dhaka the day after that incident.
Me: I know you are faint-hearted, If you knew it before our trip was canceled. That's why I didn't tell you.
My Husband: But don't you think that the witch's tale in the mountains was related to what happened to us?
Me: I think I saw the same witch in the car the first day, and later on in the window and in the room.
After that, we never saw that witch again in Dhaka. But I have had many other horror experiences later that I will tell you soon.
